Folding bikes are ideal for commuters, and for people with little space in which to store a standard bike. A number of different types are available, but all of them can be quickly folded into a package that is easily carried or stored, and can then be reassembled into a serviceable bicycle without the use of tools.
The bikes vary in their sophistication, from basic single-speed models to bikes with multiple gears, integral lighting systems, and carrying capacities.
There are even folding mountain, road race, and time-trial bikes available. All have small wheels, which are essential to the design because wheels cannot be folded. One disadvantage of small wheels is that they give a harsh ride; some bikes overcome this by including a suspension system.
